About Me
I am an experienced, qualified counsellor working in Warwickshire. I work with individuals, couples and young people. I have a particular interest in working with relational difficulties and identity issues.
I have a private practice in Nuneaton where I see people from all walks of life who are struggling with different issues which are impacting on their lives. I am committed to helping my clients to alleviate distress and work towards a happier life where they feel in control.
For over ten years I have helped people in variety settings including private practice, local counselling agencies, schools, colleges, youth clubs and residential homes.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to help other people; I knew that I was interested in how people thought, felt and behaved. After studying a degree in Psychology and working in various supporting roles I found myself drawn to Counselling to work with people in a deeper, more meaningful way. I have had my own difficulties and personal therapy with counsellors which has greatly benefited me. Life can be unpredictable, ever changing with transitions and challenges which can be really tough to get through, particularly when you feel alone, confused, embarrassed or misunderstood.
I work with a wide range of issues which include; depression and feeling of sadness, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties and breakdowns, loss, grief and bereavement, abuse, pregnancy and miscarriage, body image issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. I have particular experience in working with people who have suffered from rape or sexual abuse.
Sometimes people who come to see me can’t pinpoint what it is that is troubling them, but they know that they don’t feel right and aren’t as happy with life as they feel they should be. This is quite common; counselling can help you to make sense of what you are going through.
(My name has recently changed from Natalie Steptoe).
How I work
I work in a humanistic way which is non-judgemental. My work is grounded in person centred theory, but I integrate other approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy, Solution Focused Approach (SFA), Mindfulness and Relaxation to meet the needs of my clients. I provide an environment which is relaxed, safe and empathic. My aim is to help clients to work through their difficulties to make sense of what is troubling them, to find a way forward to a happier, more contented life.
My Training
I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. I am a trained Relationship Therapist. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and operate within their ethical framework for good practice.
